Kids’ Market

The Fredericksburg Farmers Market unfortunately could not host the Annual Kids Market this year due to Covid-19.

We hope by next June we will be able to welcome back all the wonderfully talented Kid vendors to sell their home grown and handmade wares at the market.

The Farmers Market.co (TFM.co) is hosting a Regional Farmers Market Meeting on Thursday, February 23rd to provide information to prospective and returning vendors for the 2016 market season. The meeting will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the L. E. Smoot Memorial Library, located at 9533 Kings Highway, King George, VA 22485. The program this year includes a morning session for prospective vendors of the Fredericksburg, King George, and Spotsylvania farmers markets, and an afternoon session for prospective and returning vendors. There is no charge for this event.

The program for the morning session will include information on production and at-market food safety by Eric Bowen, Food Safety Agent at Virginia Cooperative Extension, presentations on the specifics of each farmers market by their respective Market Managers, and an overview of TFM.co’s Market Token and Nutrition Incentive programs by Elizabeth Borst, Program Director.

The afternoon session will include the keynote address, Is Your Gut Instinct Costing You Money?, by Ellen Polishuk of Potomac Vegetable Farms. A presentation on TFM.co’s programs and status in 2015 and presentations of detailed information about the upcoming 2016 market season for each farmers market will also be provided in the afternoon session. The program will conclude with a period for vendor comments and questions.

Our keynote speaker, Ellen Polishuk, is an owner and a co-manager of Potomac Vegetable Farms (PVF) where 20 acres are cultivated using organic practices. PVF sells at six farmers markets, runs two roadside stands, and serves a 550-member CSA in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area. Ellen works to educate growers on how to keep records, how to use them to analyze their farm’s profitability, and how to change management strategies to increase farm profits. Ellen has been a featured speaker at the Local Food Hub, at Virginia Berry and Vegetable Growers Field Day, on Veggie Compass, and is an important resource for the Southern Sustainable Agriculture Working Group.

Parking for TFM.co’s Regional Farmers Market Meeting is available at the library.

Program check-in opens at 10:00 a.m. on February 23rd. The morning session will begin at 10:30 a.m. and conclude at 1:00 p.m. There will be a short break for lunch and the afternoon session will begin at 1:30 p.m. The entire program will conclude by 4:30 p.m.

Pre-registration is necessary to help us plan for this meeting. Please register online. Registration must be received by February 16, 2016 to ensure participation. You will receive a confirmation of your registration at the email address provided with your registration.
