Emily Battle recently featured area Farmers Markets in her article “Time is ripe for market shopping.”
Here is an excerpt:
King George’s market is starting its third season, a year after winning recognition as the country’s most-loved boutique-size market in a contest sponsored by the American Farmland Trust.
Manager DeLaura Padovan hopes this year will be about expanding the market’s role as an educational organization.
Among other things, the market will be sponsoring a series of film screenings at Smoot Memorial Library this spring that shed light on a variety of topics, from the role of women in the growing local food movement to a major threat to the bee population, a key ingredient a healthy local produce harvest.
