The Farmers Market.co (TFM.co) is hosting a Regional Farmers Market Meeting on Thursday, February 19th to provide information to existing and prospective vendors for the 2015 market season. As many producers are common to the Fredericksburg, King George, and Spotsylvania farmers markets, we are conducting one regional meeting to be more effective in the use of your time. The meeting will be held from 12:30 to 4:30 P.M. at the L. E. Smoot Memorial Library, located at 9533 Kings Highway, King George, VA 22485. There is no charge for this event.
The program for the Regional Farmers Market Meeting will offer information that will be of value to all producers regardless of the market at which they sell (see the program below). Our keynote speaker is Eric Bowen, Food Safety Agent at Virginia Cooperative Extension. He will be talking about how to ensure food safety at farmers markets. Pam Hess, Executive Director at Arcadia Center for Sustainable Food and Agriculture, will provide an overview of the USDA Specialty Crop Block Grant titled “Transitioning Farms to Sustainable Practices for Economic Viability and Environmental Health,” on which TFM.co is a strategic partner. Her presentation will be helpful to farmers considering converting conventionally farmed acreage to sustainably farmed acreage. Woodie Walker, from the Friends of the Rappahannock, will be speaking about water quality and its relation to food production.
A review of the 2014 market season and detailed information about the upcoming 2015 market season for each market will be provided in the program.
The program will also include two breakout sessions. In one session, Stephen Corrigan, Arcadia’s Farm Director, will be speaking about best practices for growing sustainable produce. In the other session, Eric Bowen will be speaking about food safety issues with processed and prepared foods, such as baked goods, jam and jellies, and pickles. In both sessions, there will be time for the speakers to answer your specific questions, so be sure to bring them with you.

Program check-in opens at 12 p.m. on February 19th. The meeting will begin at 12:30 p.m. There will be a coffee break at the meeting midpoint and it will end by 4:30 p.m.
Pre-registration is necessary to help us plan for this meeting. Please register on line through this site. Registration must be received by February 12, 2015 to ensure participation. You will receive a confirmation of your registration at the email address provided with your registration.
