I know everyone is more than ready to finally get back to eating locally grown fresh produce again! I know I am and can’t wait to see old and new friends again.

Opening day is just around the corner and we are all excited about getting back to the routine of summertime — buying fresh vegetables, beautiful plants, wonderful bakery goods, fresh seafood, and other treats. There will be a wide assortment of produce and other items at our market this year. The late spring has set the farmers back a little and will cause some of the produce to be ready later than last year. However, there will be plenty of fresh herbs, spinach, kale, onions, carrots, beets, asparagus, and radishes ready for purchase on Saturday. KGFM will also have for sale eggs, plants, jams, jellies, fresh seafood, beef, peanuts, and dairy products on opening day.

In a few weeks strawberries will be ready, and then follow raspberries, blackberries, peaches, cherries, pears, blueberries, and, later in the season, apples. You can also look forward to seeing a wide assortment of tomatoes, watermelons, cantaloupes, dew melons, broccoli, cabbage, squash, cucumbers, peas, string beans, corn, and more. Who can’t wait to bite into a mouth-watering strawberry or a fully ripe tomato?

Buying locally from King George and Westmoreland farmers helps the farmer and our local economy, not to mention providing fresh produce and goods to our communities.

KGFM will continue to support the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program — our SNAP customers. For the first $10, the market will provide a matching $10 for fresh produce. We also accept EBT, VISA, MasterCard, and, of course, cash.

Please come and support your local growers and help keep the KGFM a place that we all enjoy and look forward to coming to every Saturday, beginning April 27 and going strong through November.
