The City of Fredericksburg’s Departments of Economic Development and Tourism and Parks, Recreation, and Public Facilities are pleased to announce the first annual Family Table event planned for August 6 – 14, 2011. This restaurant week will be kicked off with a food festival in Hurkamp Park and Market Square on Saturday, August 6th. The day-long event will combine and expand upon the Farmers Market at Hurkamp Park (National Farmer’s Market Week is August 1st -7th) and will include farm to table activities from the Cobblestone Children’s Museum and feature nationally known fruit and vegetable carver James Parker of VeggyArt. Additional vendors at the farmers market will include Papa Weaver Pork from Madison County, VA, Sweet Valley Farm Dairy from Culpeper County, VA, and Southern Exposure Seed Exchange from Mineral, VA .
In Market Square a food-science / colonial market theme will include presenters on things like canning, butter making, food science experiments from Fredericksburg Parent Magazine and a food passport initiative by local physician Dr. Yum.
